Fatigue can be a severe problem for elderly people, particularly for seniors suffering from physical ailments. According to a study in the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society, of the 199 residents surveyed at a residential care facility, 51% reported mild fatigue, 40% reported moderate fatigue, and 7% reported severe fatigue. Fatigue also was reported to contribute to depression, limit activities of daily living, influence use of medication, and impair the ability to perform a three-minute walk. Of those surveyed, 11% reported fatigue lasting more than five years.
