When you want your child to have all the benefits of a conservative, drugless approach to health care, chiropractic is the answer. We as Doctors of Chiropractic believe it's much more important to prevent diseases than wait until an illness occurs. Through regular adjustments, counseling on proper diet, exercise and posture, we can help you raise a child whose body is structurally and functionally sound. Your child will also learn good health habits at an early age, which can be very beneficial to him or her as an adult.
Your child's first visit to our office can be a pleasant experience, without painful injections and procedures, but with plenty of nurturing. The benefits of chiropractic care for children have become increasingly evident as Chiropractic research has
"Parents should bring their children to chiropractors to have their spinal development checked." |
Just as parents take their children to the dentist for regular check-ups, so should parents bring their children to chiropractors to have their spinal development checked. From the time of birth and in the months thereafter, there are many mechanisms by which the normal functioning of the spine can be interfered with. Birth can cause spinal segments to be pushed out of place or jammed during labor from the trauma of the trip through the birth canal. Spinal problems can also occur as a result of the frequent falls suffered by young infants in their first months of life. Even a sudden stop in an automobile, or any significant movement of the head and neck in an infant can induce excessive movement in the spine causing vertebral sublaxations. As young infants learn to crawl and walk, the bumps and bruises they suffer along the way can also cause subluxations and other related problems. Your child's spine grows almost 50% in length during his/her first year. It is this kind of tremendous growth and developmental changes which make a complete chiropractic examination so important in the early stages of your child's life.
Much like a cavity in a child’s tooth, parents generally cannot recognize when a child has spinal subluxations. Common signals to look for include where the child's head is consistently tilted to the side, where there is restricted head or neck motion to one side, disturbed sleeping patterns where the child sleeps for only an hour or two at a time, and in the case of infants, where the infant has difficulty nursing at the breast on one particular side. In addition, common health problems such as earaches, sore throats, colic, headaches, bed-wetting, and growing pains are but some of the other symptoms of spinal disorder for which parents bring their children to our office for safe, gentle, natural treatment.
